COMMUNITY

Provo has many ‘treasures’ when it comes to our quality of life. Bowling, movies, Covey Center, many unique places to eat & shop, roof top concerts, Provo river, mountains, Provo lake, and the list goes on and on. I’ve enjoyed many of them like bowling with my family.

For my birthday a couple years ago, my son and grandson invited me to ride the Heber Creeper with our hero (John Wayne). We were able to thwart a train robbery and keep the passengers safe. Great family times, great SAFE place to live and raise a family. We have so many amazing family oriented things to do in, and around, Provo.

On May 26th 2017 the Advisory Board for the Veterans’ Success Center, with the help of the Veterans Success Center Staff, and a host of VERY GENEROUS businesses (about 2 dozen), led by Mercedes Benz, hosted the 1st Annual “Putts for Patriots” charity golf tournament at Shady Ridge Golf Course, in Orem. Chick-fil- A donated breakfasts for all the attendees and Wallaby’s donated the luncheon. Others, many of whom are listed on the banner behind us, donated cash, door prizes, services, coupons, etc. The local community, over 100 golfers, came to help raise money and awareness of both how many veterans (and their families) we have at UVU and the unique challenges they have reintegrating into society and college.

The event was a smashing success. We netted a little under $20,000; all of which will be used, with ZERO overhead or administrative expenses, to provide services of one kind or another to our veterans and/or their families.

I’m proud to have played a small part in this critically important public service for those who have given so much for all of us. Pictured with me are Sheldon Holgreen the Executive Director of the Veterans success center, to my right, and Carol Walker and Ray Gunn to my left. Both Ray and Carol work at the Lindon Mercedes Benz dealership in Lindon, Ray is the General Manager and Carol is the Director of Community Relations.
